1:1 vs. 1:100

I just had a call with a woman who is very comfortable giving a talk to 100 people, but comes undone in challenging 1:1 conversations.

I asked her what makes the difference.

In 1:1's, there's nothing to hide behind. And the "performance" of being in front of an audience feels good. Being without that feels exposed. Like you're a fraud.

Is it about not having answers to the questions? "It kind of is...I don't know what they need to hear from me."

The challenge in this is ultimately the same - it's just activated by different contexts.

The first question I ask is: "What makes you feel like the most vibrant, enervated, banging version of yourself?"

Fear tends to target the gaps in our self knowledge.

Fill those gaps with an empowered you, and you're taking the most important stride toward a more comfortable and authentic conversation.
